did you know

the Qur'an promises "no fear, no grief" twelve times, in the exact same words.

fear looks forward. grief looks back. most of us get stuck right between them, and Allah named both.

وَلَنَبْلُوَنَّكُم بِشَيْءٍ مِّنَ الْخَوْفِ

"We will surely test you with something of fear..."

al-Baqarah 2:155

فَمَن تَبِعَ هُدَايَ فَلَا خَوْفٌ عَلَيْهِمْ وَلَا هُمْ يَحْزَنُونَ

"Whoever follows My guidance, there will be no fear for them, nor will they grieve."

al-Baqarah 2:38

why i wrote it

i was fourteen, in a classroom of strangers.

we had just moved from Canada to America, and one question followed me for four years: who am i meant to be amongst all of these people?

i was consumed with fear of who i had to become, and with grief for who i'd lost along the way. it took a janaza, a graveyard full of young men holding the Qur'an, for me to see that my identity was never something i had to invent.

this is the guide i wish someone had handed me then.
